/02PROBLEM

The problems iStar
solves

This product was built to solve the recurring operational and development challenges found in real environments like the ones below.

CONTEXT

A fan-artist video call platform where fans wait their turn in a queue and artists pick fans from a dashboard to run 1:1 video calls. It provides Agora RTC-based real-time calls and a WebSocket waiting room. Existing solutions were either not operator-friendly or built in a way that piled up maintenance costs. UNISYS redesigned this into a product that's owned all the way through operations.

/03FEATURES

Key Features

The core features iStar provides. Every feature is delivered in an operable form.

F-01

Real-time waiting room

Fans join a virtual queue over WebSocket to see live waiting counts and their turn, automatically receiving an Agora channel and token when it's their turn.

F-02

Artist dashboard

Artists see the waiting list in real time and pick the next fan to start and end calls. An artist-driven flow runs one call at a time.

F-03

1:1 video calls

Real-time video calls powered by the Agora RTC SDK, with channel tokens issued securely on the server.

F-04

Events · Participation codes

Create and manage events (fan meetings); fans enter via participation-code verification.

F-05

Separate auth model

Separate JWT authentication for fans (participation code) and artists (username/password) controls access.

F-06

Multi-client

Ships with an artist web app, a fan web app, and a fan iOS app, with images and files stored in Cloudflare R2.

/05FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

The questions we hear most often when evaluating adoption.

A basic setup (events, waiting room, video calls) typically takes 2–3 business weeks; 6–8 weeks when integrating custom systems such as Agora, payments, or fandom platforms.
Yes. The backend and frontends ship as multi-arch (amd64/arm64) Docker images to run on your own infrastructure. (Video calling depends on the Agora RTC service.)
It provides a REST API (/api), WebSocket (/ws), and JWT authentication, with the full spec available via Swagger (/docs).
An artist-driven flow runs one call at a time with a single fan; the rest wait their turn in a real-time queue. Queue state is managed with Redis.
